Family picnic

IMG_7086

Tonight was Lauren’s family picnic and mini program. She was very worried that it was going to be cancelled because of the weather, but we just had our picnic inside instead.  Unfortunately, it’s the height of Daddy’s travel season so he couldn’t be there tonight.

Every student got a scrapbook of projects they made throughout the year and a dvd of photos with a slide show.  It was so sweet to watch them sing songs tonight and watch the slideshow together.

Lauren was the shortest (and I believe youngest) in her class.  It was such a great year.  She had the most fabulous teacher whom I cannot say enough wonderful things about.

Twin Day

securedownload

Lauren and her sweet friend from school on “twin day.”  It worked out perfectly that she was paired up with this little girl since they both have the same Matilda Jane dress.

Whoever said….

these kids don’t get enough treats, was surely mistaken.

Hotel for the night

IMG_0459

We met Gaga and Papa for a night in a hotel (they had some certificates to use so we got a free night away, woot! Thanks again!) Unfortunately, the free night away came with a steep price as we were in the middle of nowhere.  At least they had a pool, right?  For some reason, this is the only photo I took.  It may have been because I spent almost all of my time in the pool or hot tub.  Jack proved (perhaps reiterated as we already knew this) that vacation is going to be a challenge with him.  He went without a nap and didn’t hit the hay until after 11pm.  But, this was only after we separated him and Lauren as he was just jabbering away in bed and Lauren was dead tired trying to fall asleep.  2 minutes of silence (probably more like 25 seconds) and Lauren was out like a light.  Hopefully vacation will be easier since they will have separate beds then.

Star of the Week

20130524_11145020130524_112925

Lauren was finally the star of the week at school.  Life sure is rough when your last name starts with practically the last letter of the alphabet (u v w x y z aren’t really letters, ha!) I never had this problem (it also helped me that my BFF was always right next to me in the alphabet too!)  Anyhow, we got to have lunch with Lauren at school today and brought Jackson along as well.  Lauren was very excited to have lunch with the whole family (it helped that we brought Erberts and Gerbets.)

Ophthalmologist visit

IMG_0454

Jack had his annual eye exam and visit to check on his nevis (and this time they dilated him.)  Poor guy!  He handled it like a trooper though.  Here he is doing his picture eye exam.  They use some kind of reflective thing to project the image onto the wall in front of him and he didn’t understand that he had to look at it in front of him instead of the mirror image behind him on the wall.  It was a bit of a challenge, but he passed (only slight prescription that she’s thinking he’ll just outgrow.) Also in the good news department, we don’t need to keep going back annually, he can just go in for routine exams now.

The Risser run

I was really impressed with Lauren’s run.  She started as the VERY last person in the entire school and finished in front of many older kids with a big head start. Go Beany!!

Lookout, those kindergarteners are fast!

Ice cream and some playtime

I would have taken more photos of Lauren eating her ice cream, but she literally inhaled it and I didn’t get the chance to.

Mother’s Day @ school

20130513_11113920130513_112505

Today, I attended a mother’s day brunch at school with Lauren.  There were special placemats made just for us and they sang some special mother’s day songs.  We ended up the lunch time with homemade cupcakes (yum!)  It was a super precious event put on by Lauren’s amazing kindergarten teacher (who I couldn’t be more pleased with!!)20130513_112654

Happy Mother’s Day!

We went out for brunch with my parents today.  It was quite the sunny day out and my dad was operating the camera (marginally better than my mom who cuts off vital body parts) so the family pics are passable, but not great (a lot like our brunch at Applewood.)

More photography practice

Shot of the day…an action pic of Kevin getting smacked in the face with a kite!  I couldn’t get this again if I tried.

This one is dark and I’m not sure how to fix it so dark it will stay.

The kites were a bunch of fun once we got them going.  Kevin brought both kids back a fancy kite from his trip to San Francisco.  I’m thinking we’re not going to keep up with buying souvenirs from every place he visits.  I wanted him to start a kitschy collection of miniature spoons or something like that for the kids, but Kevin thought that was a dumb idea.

Photography

IMG_6243IMG_6329IMG_6408

I took a short one night photography workshop that has helped me learn how to shoot in manual mode.  I’m not magically an awesome photographer though, which is what I was thinking would happen (ha!)

WW

IMG_6176

Jack and Daddy enjoying a little Monday night “Wrasling.”  Or, as Jack likes to call it, “WW!”

IMG_6179

Big boy Jack in his newly converted from a crib to a toddler bed bed.  Lauren quickly reminded me that I promised to do Jack’s room like hers (re-arrange) when we got back from the cruise.  I didn’t rearrange it yet because I just can’t bring myself to get rid of the rocking chair.  It needs to go, it really does, I’m just holding on to my lastborn’s baby-ness.  Then, once it’s gone I’ll really re-arrange (and maybe convert the changing pad/area on his dresser into an actual dresser (the big mirror attaches to the back.)
