Matchy match

IMG_3893

I’m not sure who loves to match more, me or Lauren?  I’ve been on the look out for the disco skirt to match Lauren’s for awhile now.  I finally found one at a non-ridiculous price and snapped it up.  I doubt I’ll ever find the shirt to match Lauren’s for a price I’m willing to pay, so for now it’s just the skirts and that’s good enough for us. :)  I love the resale value of Matilda Jane unless there is something I’m desperate for, then I curse it!

Parent day

Lauren was white during the color song/story so she was up dancing around a lot!!  You just have to love the interpretive dance of a 4/5 year old.

The pic on the left was a hilarious song where they were supposed to be patting their heads, rubbing their tummies, hopping up and down and then eventually doing all of that while spinning around.  It was quite adorable and fun to watch.

Last day

IMG_3847IMG_3849

Today, was Kevin’s last day @MSU.  It’s the end of an era and I’m fairly sad about it.  It was the job that not only brought us to Mankato and to my alma mater, it was the beginning of our marriage and of a whole slew of life changes.  I’m not going to lie and say that I won’t miss it, because I will.  I’m not even really sure what Kevin’s new job all entails (or even what his job title is.)  However, I know that he is beyond excited as it was the one job that would tempt him to leave higher ed and there were so many people that were slobbering over this job when it posted.  Congrats to my sweetie!  Now the “face cake” with the terrible pic on it, that’s just fantastic.  I guess the even tried to cake wreck it, but the people didn’t follow through.  Jack also enjoyed the sweet goodness.  Lauren couldn’t make it to the celebration as she was at pre-school and they were practicing for their “parent day” program.

It’s carnival season

IMG_3834

Tonight, was the Awana carnival, celebrating a successful year in the club.  Lauren had a fun year in Awana and I’m very pleased that we enrolled her.

She didn’t win any major prizes but had fun playing the games and collecting little treats.

It’s a pool party!

IMG_3813IMG_3791IMG_3815

This was about as close as Jack got to getting in the water today.  He’s going through a phase right now where he prefers to stay on dry land.  Unfortunately, this also includes his dip in the bathtub to wash the grime and filth off of his little boy parts.  This too shall pass, right?  Thanks to the Larson clan for hosting! :)

Coloring pals

A peaceful moment between brother and sister.  It’s a rarity so I had to snap a pic.

Elton John

IMG_3383IMG_3395

I was unbelievably excited when I found out awhile back that SIR Elton John would be coming to little old Mankato (seriously!?!?)  I was all set to buy tickets for my mama and I to go and rock out with him.  It was a Monday when they went on sale (which are blessed days in our house since both Jack and Lauren are at school giving me a couple of hours of free time in the morning.)  Instead of waiting by my computer with my fingers twitching I totally forgot about the sale starting and went to the gym.  I was working my butt off when I looked at facebook and saw everyone commenting on their fantastic Elton John seats (or their lack thereof as they sold out like “that”.)  I was so pissed at myself but came to grips with it later.  Last Friday one of my friends posted on facebook that she had an extra seat available if anyone wanted it (for cost, sweet!)  I chimed in that I wanted it (not even knowing where the seat was located, I just wanted to go!)  I tried to convince a friend (that had two tickets) to sell me his and he could take mine (so both my mom and I could go) however, that was no dice.  Anyhow, I showed up and when I saw my seat I about died.  I was 4 rows back and right beside the stage.  My friend that bought them told me she thought they were a huge risk but would either be fantastic or epic crap.  We lucked out and got a face to face look at Elton the entire night.  I think our seats were just as good and better than most of them that paid $150+.

I used my digital zoom to get the close up shots so the pics are quite noisy, but I feel like I’m right there.

The one on the right was right as he dropped an f-bomb on the crowd (there were some technical problems and I wonder if the guy in charge got to keep his job.)

IMG_3480IMG_3483

I was totally envious of the people in the floor seats though because at the end a bunch of them rushed the stage and he signed stuff for around 5 minutes. I also have a bunch of illegal video files, but didn’t want to bore you with them. :)  He started playing at about 8:05 and didn’t stop until around 11pm.  It was just him and the piano and it was definitely my favorite concert to date (not that I’ve been to a million of them.)

Creative play place

IMG_3369IMG_3371

Today, we made a trip over to St. Peter for some fun at their community center.  I’m not sure why Mankato doesn’t have something like this (are we too big of a town?) but I really think we should.  We started out in the gym using all of our large muscles and then moved downstairs to the creative play place to use our imaginations and smaller muscles.  The kids had a blast and I got some much needed mommy chit chat in as well.  After we finished up the playing we had a picnic lunch and played at the tree-mendous playground (which I helped build back in my college days with Kappa Delta Pi!)  It was a busy and fun morning.

Everybody now

IMG_3761

I came home from volunteering at the consignment sale tonight to find everyone wearing feetie pajamas, including my husband.  Ok, technically he wasn’t wearing pajamas but a slanket, close enough.

Kindergarten roundup

IMG_3739IMG_3743

Today, was Lauren’s kindergarten roundup at our local Elementary school.  It’s a bit scary to think, nevertheless write about.  It feels just like yesterday that she was itty-bitty teeny-tiny and I was just starting the blog and now she’s going to go to school all-day every day?

IMG_3748

She was pretty excited to go in and check out her “new school.”

IMG_3758IMG_3760

She was all smiles when she came home a couple of hours later.

Hoppy Easter

IMG_3626IMG_3628

The kids started the day by hunting for their eggs.  They really didn’t waste any time this year with the opening them up and devouring what was inside.  Jack must have been thinking, “give me the candy!!”

IMG_3644IMG_3661

Then, it was off to Church for a fantastically uplifting service.

IMG_3732IMG_3720IMG_3725

After church, it was time for some trampoline silliness.

The trampoline

IMG_3484IMG_3491IMG_3523

We started the day out in the cold and rain to cheer on papa in his Easter bunny run.  I decided not to participate because it was happening on the path that I run all the time and so it just didn’t seem worthwhile to me.

IMG_3536IMG_3547

After the run, it was off to Home depot to make a window bird feeder.  Jack is really getting into the projects and getting pins for his apron  just like his big sis’.

IMG_3564IMG_3574

Thanks to Santa Claus for the fantastic trampoline he brought the Thompson children (big ones included as well.)  We’re optimistic that the poor weather is finished for the year and there won’t be an Easter blizzard to contend with.

IMG_3616IMG_3602

It was a cold rainy and windy day, but it was the only day we had my dad’s help and since it’s quite the process to put it together the first time, today was the day!  Lauren couldn’t wait for it to be finished (and neither could this mama, because I was sick of answering the question as to when it would be time to jump.)
